This volume celebrates the 10th anniversary of Museo Jumex, Mexico City’s most important contemporary art museum, and its unique collection. Located in the vibrant Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City, Museo Jumex opened its doors to the public in 2013 as a one-of-a-kind museum devoted to the production and discussion of contemporary art. Founded by Eugenio López Alonso, a pioneer in the realm of contemporary art collecting in Mexico, and designed by Sir David Chipperfield, 2023 winner of the Pritzker Architecture award, Museo Jumex has achieved international recognition for its dual mission of bringing works of renowned international artists to Mexico for the first time and elevating the work of today’s Mexican and Latin American artists.

Thirty-five contemporary artists create their own version of Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe. Édouard Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe (1863) is generally cited as the first modern painting. The entry slide in art history lectures about modernism, the work remains among the “most audacious painting[s] ever seen in France,” as Ross King described it in The Judgement of Paris (2006). As Manet did with Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, the most provocative painters today collapse the historical and the contemporary onto one plane. Jeffrey Deitch invited a group of these influential artists to create their own versions, combined here with historical responses to Manet’s painting. The slim volume features these often biting and satirical works alongside essays discussing Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe’s enduring influence on contemporary figurative painting.

An exclusive look into the preparations behind the Naples in Paris exhibition at the Louvre, beautifully captured by the renowned photographer Robert Polidori. From June 2023 to January 2024, the Musée du Louvre in Paris welcomed sixty major masterpieces from the Museo di Capodimonte, on loan for the exhibition Naples in Paris: The Louvre Hosts the Museo di Capodimonte. The former Italian royal palace, which once served as a hunting lodge for Bourbon monarchs, is now one of the largest museums in Italy holding one of the continent’s most important collections of Italian paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
