Epopeya mitológica por excelencia, las Metamorfosis es una de las obras magnas de Ovidio. Con ella, recreó un repertorio de mitos que ha sido utilizado incansablemente por la literatura posterior, especialmente la occidental. Son una sucesión de representaciones míticas y relatos etiológicos que abarcan, en disposición cronológica, desde los albores del mundo hasta la época contemporánea del poeta. El primer volumen de esta completísima edición crítica recoge los cinco primeros libros de las más de doscientas mutaciones memorables que constituyen un fundamento indeleble para el imaginario occidental. Publicado originalmente en la BCG con el número 365, este volumen presenta la traducción de los libros I-V de las Metamorfosis de Ovidio realizada por José Carlos Fernández Corte y Josefa Cantó Llorca (Universidad de Salamanca), quienes son también autores de la introducción general. Tanto la introducción como la traducción han sido revisadas y actualizadas por sus autores para esta edición.
