Este volumen presenta la que posiblemente sea la obra maestra de Lope de Vega como dramaturgo, y sin duda, la que más ha pulsado nuestra sensibilidad contemporánea: El caballero de Olmedo. Inspirada en una cancioncilla popular, la tragicomedia presenta un enredo sentimental que adquiere desde el principio tintes fatídicos y a la postre sobrenaturales, subrayados por imágenes simbólicas generadoras de una profunda melancolía y pesar. La obra se ofrece en la mítica edición de Francisco Rico, puesta al día por el filólogo y académico en sus últimos años. Esta edición quiere, así, constituirse en el homenaje de la Biblioteca clásica de la RAE al que fuera su fundador y director cuando se cumple un año de su desaparición.
