Cuando pienso en la literatura antillana pienso en una sola literatura, una literatura en donde cada isla del archipiélago ha logrado una distinción particular, pero que en su unificación leemos el resultado de una experiencia insular parecida. En su ensayo, “La Isla que se repite”, Antonio Benítez Rojo dice que, dentro de la turbulencia historiográfica y su ruido etnológico y lingúístico, dentro de su generalizada inestabilidad de vértigo y huracán, pueden percibirse los contornos de una isla que se “repite” a sí misma. Es decir, es una región hermanada por su historia que nace del mismo tráfico y explotación humana por parte de los colonizadores europeos, pero que cada una de las naciones han reaccionado distinto al proceso de descolonización, « Cuando callan los ríos » de Jhak Valcourt es un poemario que «nos ilustra la experiencia de vida que geográfica y humanamente viven muchos haitianos en La Española. Como editor de un sello editorial puertorriqueño me preocupa la poca disponibilidad de literatura haitiana en el archipiélago. Con interés en mi región geográfica y mi responsabilidad editorial se publica el trabajo literario de Jhak Vacourt en Puerto Rico con la intención de mantener hermanado a un mismo pueblo.”
